First, be sure to grab your FREE Quarterly Planning Template!
Then tune in to this week’s video, I walk you through how to map out your photography business plan for the next 90 days! Taking care of our clients and checking off our daily to-do list is important – but so is taking a moment to take a step back and look at your goals as a business. So, first things first – you want to make sure you know your goals for the quarter, and even the year, before mapping them out.
CALENDAR
Take a look at your calendar. You want to identify how much client work you have versus how much time you have to spend on your business goals for the upcoming 90 days. If you are fully booked or have a lot going on personally, it probably isn’t a good time to take on a big business project. I recommend setting between 0-3 goals based on your calendar. This might look like aiming to focus on one goal a month. Dedicating a month to at least getting started on the goal helps you make better progress than constantly switching back and forth…and bonus you get past the hardest part…getting started!
And disclaimer, it is OKAY if it is zero. It is okay to be in a season of maintaining. This means you are intentionally deciding to focus on your current client load and not overload yourself, which is so important!
TASK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Take your goals and put them into a task management system! (Asana is my personal favorite, but Trello, ClickUp, Monday, and Notion are great options!) If you are more of a pencil-and-paper kinda gal and starting from scratch seems daunting, you’ll want to check out my Marketing Map Templates!
Establishing a task management system is not only important for a growing business but also helpful for tracking progress on projects. It helps to break down your goals into smaller tasks that take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete. *insert feeling on top of the world!*
IDENTIFY GAPS
Now that we have our plan and our fancy new tracking system – see where you can fit in your new to-dos. Consider your schedule, working hours, how much client work you have, admin days, etc. We want to set realistic expectations for ourselves for tackling these projects.
CHECK-IN
Make sure you are checking in monthly, or even weekly to review your goals. See how much progress you made on your business goal – whether that is through website analytics, increased clicks, or more inquiries. Depending on the goal, you might not see an immediate payoff. It may be gradual over a few months, or you may receive immediate feedback!
It is also important to check in to see if the goal still makes sense – did something happen in your personal life or business where things need to pivot? Allow yourself the space and freedom to be flexible and adaptable!
SAYING NO
No one likes saying no, but sometimes it is in your best interest if it doesn’t align with your current goals. Create a “parking lot” for any ideas that may come to you within these 90 days.
So, now what?
Okay so, what if you are Type B person and this feels like A LOT? Maybe you have goals but have no idea how to break it down into action items. Lucky for you, I LOVE walking my one-on-one coaching clients through this. Fill out my Quarterly Quick Start questionnaire, then sit back and treat yourself to some bubbly while I help you map out your plan!
