It is BBALL season friends! I still remember going to my first college basketball game at UVA…

And from 2015 onwards, I’ve been a FAN – plus, having games to watch wards off the ~4:30pm-sunset-scaries~ ( bring the sun back, pls & thnkyaa)

I was watching the game vs. JMU a few weeks ago and BOY did they give us a run for our money

But the commentator (not only actually cursed Kihei Clark at the free throw line with a joke he DIDN’T knock on wood for but also…) dropped some WISDOM.

It went something like watching the ball ~ wobble ~ in, circle the hoop like 3 times and then …. PLOP. OUT. to a collective JPJ crowd went “awwww” – like you could literally hear the collective sigh….

“Well, you just have to count that as a hoop that went in and keep your head in the game to keep going”

It was such a quick comment – but here’s the reason why that was actually GOLD. (I might have to forgive him for cursing my man Kihei – who’s been playing since I went to school there!)

There is so much in business that is both WITHIN and TOTALLY OUT of our control in business.

For the longest time, I felt like everything was ALWAYS on my shoulders.

If I didn’t completely hit a goal after working really hard at it, I took almost ~too~ much personal responsibility for it.

When instead I should have given myself CREDIT for showing up like someone who HAD hit the goal (or sunk the bucket). For hitting the 97% of a goal instead of getting so upset over the 3% that I missed.

So that I could continue on with the LONG GAME of business rather than letting it discourage me from launching/marketing/working a strategy that I KNEW got me 97% of the way.

So friend, what in the past year do you need to COUNT as a win for how you showed up regardless of the outcome?

I hope you’ll take some time to celebrate yourself showing up and doing the work.

I see too many creatives quitting or giving up instead of keeping at it – because sometimes all it takes is to KEEP going. You’re closer to your goals than you think you are!
