Shahana & Marc’s Gaye Holud | Wedding Event Pictures, Charlottesville Virginia
The Gaye Holud ceremony is a tradition where the bride & groom are smothered in yellow turmeric paste. The paste is supposed to clean the skin and to give it a soft & beautiful glow. This coupled along with feeding the guests some sweets, music performance, and an appearance from the JMU Road Dog made for a great night the day before the wedding! What is usually held separately for the bride & groom was combined and both the families made their own separate entrances in to the venue. The ENTIRE place was decked out in purple & gold representing Shahana & Marc’s love for their alma matter!

The bridesmaids were dressed in raspberry and were all ready to shower the bride & groom with sweets upon their entrance.
I can’t get over his expression of seeing Shahana walk through the door!
This was the cutest moment of the night. They couldn’t stop smiling at each other when they finally got to their seats.
And then the onslaught of being fed sweets & smeared with turmeric began.
Love this one! Some of the guests didn’t hold back at all when they had their turn to get the groom with the yellow paste and some kids decided to take a bite of the sweets to see what they were like 🙂
The entire night was packed with so much fun. I loved the singing performances that mixed Hindi & American music. Shahana & Marc played the Shoe Game where for each chore or characteristic called out the couple, facing different ways, had to put up a shoe for whom they believed better fit the category. And of course the night was not complete without both families coming out on the dance floor for more salsa dancing! Taking pictures throughout the night got me very excited for the couple’s wedding the next day. My night couldn’t have ended in a better way than Shahana asking me to attend the wedding as a guest the next day! I was so honored that I could hardly get a complete sentence out to say “yes!” to her. I know I’ve said it more times than I can count but I just want to say such a huge THANK YOU to everyone at all of the wedding events that made me feel so incredibly welcome in the celebration. I had an incredible time capturing #sharcweek and an even better time at #sharcwedding!
